Why I Built This Free ZIP Converter
Honestly? I got tired of friends sending me RAR files and me having to explain "hey, you need WinRAR or something to open this." Not everyone has that. Most people just want a regular ZIP file that opens automatically on Mac or Windows. So I made this tool. You upload whatever weird archive format you have – RAR, 7Z, TAR, even a messed up ZIP – and it spits out a clean, normal ZIP file. No signup, no email, no nonsense. Just a ZIP that works.
What's the Deal with Converting RAR to ZIP?
RAR files are great if you're the one making them. Good compression, nice features. But sending a RAR to somebody else? Chances are they'll stare at it and not know what to do. Same with 7Z files. They're efficient, sure, but your grandma doesn't have 7-Zip installed. Converting to ZIP solves that. ZIP is like the MP3 of archives – everybody supports it. This tool lets you take that RAR, that 7Z, that TAR, and turn it into a universal ZIP in under a minute.
Can I Use This for Big ZIP Files?
Yeah, up to 300MB. If you have a massive folder full of photos or project files, you can repack it as ZIP here. It's handy when you're switching from a Linux machine (where TAR is common) to a Windows laptop that just wants ZIP. Or when you downloaded software in 7Z format but you want to store it as ZIP for long-term. No software installation, all in your browser.
People Ask Me These ZIP Questions
Not at all. ZIP is a lossless format. We're just repackaging your files, not changing what's inside. Your photos, documents, or videos stay exactly the same.
That's a bit funny, but yes. Sometimes people upload a ZIP that's corrupted or made with weird compression. We can clean it up and give you a fresh, working ZIP file.
No. Once the conversion is done and you download (or even if you don't), the file is wiped from our server. I don't want to see your tax documents or vacation photos.
Right now, this tool doesn't support password-protected archives. You'd need to remove the password first with the original software, then convert.
